CISSOKHO SYSTEMCissokho Systems music emerges from the manding culture with the kora virtuoso and singer Solo Cissokho in front. Solo Cissokho won the BBC3 music awards 2003 together with Ellika Frisell, and was as well nominated to the Nordic Council’s Musicprize 2003. Cissokho System is featuring a powerful percussion section from Senegal, Norway and the Ivory coast.Together with a guitar & konting-player and a bassist from Norway they form a combo that have managed to combine ideas from the different cultures in a very dynamic and integrated way. Cissokho System is currently working on a new album (2006). |

The music of Cissokho System varies from groovy dance rythms via intense improvisation, to quiet, meditative parts, and despite the combination of traditional and electric instruments they have managed to keep somehow the sound and soul of the tradition. The songs are both traditional Senegalese and original material. The band was started in 1998, and have performed in several festivals and venues in Skandinavia and Senegal. All the musicians have been working with different artists on the european music scene for several years. |
