ORHEIM/KAASIN
The fascination of Jørgen Orheim and Eivind Kaasin for the extremely rich overtone spectrum of the Hardanger fiddle inspired them, over two years ago, to decide to create an electronic recording based exclusively on the sound of one Hardanger fiddle. Lars Underdal’s “Gullfakse” (NORCD) was chosen as the vehicle for realising this plan.

The fascination of Jørgen Orheim and Eivind Kaasin for the extremely rich overtone spectrum of the Hardanger fiddle inspired them, over two years ago, to decide to create an electronic recording based exclusively on the sound of one Hardanger fiddle. Lars Underdal’s “Gullfakse” (NORCD) was chosen as the vehicle for realising this plan. The album will be out in November. We are marking the release thursday Nov. 23 at club Cosmopolite, Oslo.
The coming album is a beautiful and resonant one, composed and produced as a cohesive whole, which NORCD is proud to be able to present.
It is also in the spirit of NORCD that new music is being created based on an instrument with strong historical roots and rich folk music traditions. If you listen closely, you will be able to discern its essence, its source, but the music that has been created here is new.
This release is devoted to a tradition other than that of folk music. On their debut album Orheim/Kaasin are exploring new facets of the concept of remixing, and the influence of the electronic tradition is obvious.
NORCD is sailing uncharted waters with this first purely electronic release in its catalogue.
