TROMSØ KUNSTFORSYNING

The artistic concept behind this ensemble developed while Øystein Blix was studying jazz at the Trondheim Music Conservatory. To be more exact, while he was working together with Trygve Seim, Arve Henriksen and other musicians in Trondhjems Kunstorkester. This ensemble played improvised music in which the individual musicians had a broad scope and the compositional point of departure was relatively open.

This has been one of the main musical principles in the work of Tromsø Kunstforsyning (TK) since it was founded in 1999. Taking improvisation as its starting point, the ensemble has collaborated with musicians from a variety of genres in developing its concept further. Several of these musicians appear on this recording.

TK’s collaborations with a number of artists in a variety of artistic genres, such as Liv-Hanne Haugen (dancer), Bernt Bjørn (actor), Nikolas Horne (light and sound designer) and Kristin Eriksen Bjørn (director), have helped to promote diversity in the northern music scene, and have established new forms of interplay among improvisational artists.

Taking improvisation and free forms in art and music as its starting point, the ensemble has collaborated with musicians from a variety of genres in developing its concept further. Several of these musicians appear as guests on this recording. This work of Tromsø Kunstforsyning (TK), founded in 1999, presents a broad cross-section of the ensemble’s intriguing soundscape. It is TK’s first CD, and gives the listener an idea of what improvised music can sound like at 70° north in 2009. Press releases (NO / ENG) available in press room.
